The project, estimated at GH¢10, 000.00 involved sinking of mechanised boreholes, changing of water pumps, laying of distribution pipelines and public standpipes.

The borehole, adds to a chain of social responsibility projects being undertaken by the Rotaract Club.Mr Dean Senchim, the President of Rotaract Club of Accra, said that the gesture formed part of the Club’s commitment to help the needy in society.

“We are happy that this project has seen the light of day. Water and sanitation falls under one of the five avenues of Rotary International.“We undertook some need assessment, and realised that the people needed safe water, so we decided to take on the borehole rehabilitation for them.

“Rotary and Rotaract is all about making and difference and that is giving back to society to enhance the living standards of our communities. So wherever we find out that they are challenged, we do whatever we can to salvage the situation for them,” Mr Senchim said.

He urged the benevolent society to keep making a difference in the community, adding that, there was a lot to be done and therefore could not give up yet.Mr Alex Mehinto, President of Rotaract Club de Cotonou Cocotiers said that they were satisfied that their support had brought smiles to the Bepowase-Adukrom community.

He hoped Rotary Club Accra Ring Road would support them to undertake similar project in Benin.

Mr Samuel Anim, Krontihene of the community, was grateful to the Club for coming to their aid.

He said water had been a major challenge in the Community as they had to walk long distance in search of water. “We had to walk about three kilometres into the bush to get water from a stream. This has come as a big relief for us and our children and we are happy. We plead that a lot more of such kind gestures will come to our Community,” he said.

Rotaract Club is a service, leadership, professional and community service organization for young men and women between the ages 18–30.
