The items include Community Radio Equipments, Solo Cocoa Spraying machines, sets of barbering kits, sewing machines, gas cylinder and ovens, wheel chairs, deep freezers, cassava processing machines and palm oil processing machines.

The rest are education scholarships, medical fees and a start up capital.

The funds used in purchasing the items forms part of the 3 per cent District Assembly Common Fund for Persons with Disability.

The presentation ceremony was sponsored by Skyy Media Group /Star Ghana which assisted the assembly to build a digital album on Persons with Disability in the District.

Mr Wilson Arthur, the District Chief executive for the area, said a total of 1,200 people in Wassa East were on the PWD album of the district.

He said out of the 230 beneficiaries, 49 received working tools dubbed seed items, whiles 175 received money to start their own businesses with four going for education scholarships and two for health care needs.

He said those who receive cash should not use it as ‘chop money’ but rather for the purpose of which it was given.

He explained that the items were not imposed on the beneficiaries but that the beneficiaries themselves made the request during a need assessment programme.

Mr Arthur said a monitoring and evaluation team would be put in place to closely monitor the usage of both the cash and items and that anyone who would misappropriate his or her fund would be sanctioned accordingly.

He commended Skyy media group and Star Ghana for assisting the assembly to get a district digital album on PWDs which, he said, would enhance planning and development.

The DCE said every quarter, subject to funds released, more beneficiaries would be supported to enhance the quality of lives adding "the new vision of WEDA is to make the district a place of land of opportunities and prosperity".

Mr Isaac Adjei Mensah, MP for Wassa East, commended the District Chief Executive for continuing with the programme which started in 2012 by the NDC government.

He advised the beneficiaries to take good care of the items to ensure that they last longer.

Mr Emmanuel Akpevor, the Planning Committee Chairman, told the beneficiaries that disability was not inability and urged them to use the items and cash judiciously to improve upon their living conditions.

He said all the PWD in the districts would benefit in due course and urged them to form committees in their various electoral areas to enhance their work.

Many of the beneficiaries the GNA spoke to expressed their appreciation to government and the Assembly for the support saying it would help improve upon their living conditions.
