The Kwahu South District Assembly has disbursed a total of GH¢105,000.00 to Persons With Disability (PWD) within the District to empower them to undertake sustainable economic ventures.
This came to light during a public forum organised for PWDs by the Kwahu South District Assembly Disability Fund Management Committee at Mpraeso for the disbursement.
The amount included; a total of Gh¢20,000.00 in the form of cheques given to beneficiaries for start-ups businesses and expansion of existing businesses and also GH¢85,000.00 used for acquisition of equipment and logistics for some of the PWDS.
The money forms part of the Assembly’s share of the Common Fund and about 70 selected individuals benefited from the disbursement.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Atta Ofori in his address entreated the beneficiaries to invest the money into productive ventures to help uplift their standards of living and welfare and cautioned them against selling their equipment.
The Director of Social Development, Mr Adu Asante said the selection of beneficiaries was transparent and strictly based son the prescribed guidelines for the project.He explained that one major requirement was that the applicant for the fund must necessarily be a disabled person and submitted an application detailing what he or she intended to use the money for and based on the convincing reasons stated, the committee approved the request.
Mr Asante said the purpose of the fund was to empower persons with disability economically to get them out of the street begging for alms and exposing themselves to traffic risks.The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Assembly for considering them for the fund and promised to use the support in ways that would benefit them and their dependents.
