The Catholic Association of Media Practitioners, Ghana (CAMP-G), has elected Mrs. Victoria Lugey, as the first female National President of the Association.
Mrs. Lugey also serves as the second Vice President of Union Catholique Africaine de la Presse (UCAP) also known as the African Catholic Union of the Press.
In a brief maiden speech, Mrs. Lugey expressed gratitude to members of CAMP-G for electing her to the high office of President and expressed optimism that together with her colleagues in the national executive, they would be able to steer the affairs of the Association to the next level.
The elections which took place at the end of the Association’s second National Congress, elected Father Blaise Bobi-Attachie as the Vice President; Mr. Robert Dela Mawuenyegah as General Secretary; Miss Portia Bakhita Kuder as the Assistant General Secretary; Mr. Damian Avevor as the Treasurer; and Mr. Stephen Patrick Asante as the Organizing Secretary.
Father Dieu Donne Kofi Davor, Executive Secretary of the Department of Social and Pastoral Communication at Ghana’s National Catholic Secretariat is an Ex-Officio member and Spiritual Director of the Association.
The Biennial Congress was held at the SMA Regional House at Oshuiman-Amamoley in Accra from February 15 to 17, 2019 under the theme: Using the media for promotion of integral human development in Ghana.
Mrs. Lugey solicited the support of members of the Association saying, “We are all in this together”.
The members resolved to renew their efforts in promoting the activities of the Church saying “As Catholic Communicators and Media Practitioners in Ghana, we rededicate ourselves to the common good of the Church and Country.”
They pledged their fidelity to the truth for which Christ lived and died and affirmed that media ethics is essential in their journalistic work.
The CAMP-G members called on all Media Practitioners in Ghana to exhibit their professional ethics and exercise self-censorship in the performance of their duties as the fourth Estate.
Internationally, CAMP-G is a member of UCAP as well as the World catholic Association for Communication (SIGNIS).
