Mr Richard Adazabra, Acting Upper East Regional Director of the Legal Aid Commission, has said it is a criminal offence to sell the same parcel of land to two or more people under 1960 Land Act 122.
He said such actions are punishable by law.
Mr Adazabra said this when he addressed 35 selected chiefs and queen mothers drawn from the Upper East, Upper West and Northern Regions at a day's workshop held in Bolgatanga.
The workshop, which was organized by the Network for Women Rights in Ghana in partnership with the Widows and Orphans Movement was held under the theme: "Strengthening women farmers voice for improved livelihood."
Mr Adazabra appealed to government and traditional rulers to empower women economically, socially and politically to enable them contribute effectively to nation building.
Madam Abigail Fati Abdulia, the Director of Widows and Orphans Movement, called on chiefs and queen mothers to team up and fight for the rights of women, especially in the land acquisition process.
