Life is an unknown journey that we embark on. Nobody knows how long it is to the end, how painful or peaceful, dignified or undignified the end will be, how steep the slopes on the journey will be, how winding or confusing the road will be or how straight the road will be. What we do know, however, is that we are all embarking on that journey and we take inspiration from the Supreme Being that we all look up to no matter the religion we profess.
We all look for one form of support or the other to help smoothen our paths. Christians will turn to the Bible and its teachings for guidance. It is for this reason that Reverend Samuel Owoo, the Senior Minister and Pastor of Tyndale Baptist Church in Reading, Berkshire in England, has put together weekly reflections of bible verses to support people as they go through this journey.
Launched at the Golden Tulip Hotel on the 29th June, 2019, Reflections on Biblical Golden Nuggets is a week by week biblical motivational book that seeks to support and encourage people to go through the struggles of life. Inspired by God, Rev. Owoo picks a bible verse for each week and reflects on these verses.
He says that since its publication and subsequent distribution, he has been amazed at how prophetic and lifesaving some of the verses have been.
Reverend Owoo said that the idea came to him while on sabbatical. He said that God laid it on his heart to continuously remind His people that He is with them every step of the way, thus the writing of the book. Rev. Owoo said that there are two particular verses that God asked him to repeat thrice in the book and these are Lamentations 3: 22-23 which say that:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
These verses appear three times in the book. Pastor Owoo pointed out that God inspired him to repeat these verses to continually remind people of God’s love for them. He noted that God has blessed us with so many things for which we ought to be grateful.
Reverend Owoo, who is also the Baptist Chaplain at the University of Reading and a Vice-Chair of Churches Together in Reading told the audience that he and his wife, Dr Heather Owoo, a medical practitioner with the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom, have devoted their lives to helping the youth in society, to turn away from crime and embrace the teachings of the Bible. With gratitude to God, Reverend Owoo noted that their work has had a significant impact on society as crime wave has reduced considerably. He said that for this, he and his wife have received recognition from the Police Force in Reading, UK.
He announced that their next project was to extend their services to the youth of Ghana. He prayed that God would use he and his wife to positively impact the lives of the youth in Ghana starting from Chorkor in Accra.
