He said the British High Com­mission in Ghana would continue to maintain its programmes to deepen cooperation among the two nations for development.

Mr Edward made the statement here in Tamale on Wednesday when he led a delegation from the British High Commission to pay a courtesy call on the Northern Regional Min­ister, Mr Ali Adolf John Nburidiba, in his office.

The aim of the courtesy call was to introduce the UK team and to share the UK’s priorities with the minister.

The meeting was also to explore potential of the Northern Region and the UK for more partnership.

Some of the key issues discussed at the meeting were governance, se­curity, and economic development.

Mr Edward stated that, the meeting with the minister marked a significant step towards strength­ening bilateral ties and fostering cooperation between the two nations.

This, according to him would go a long way to develop more rela­tions between the UK and Ghana.

He said the commission pro­vided services to British Nationals living in and visiting Ghana hence the need for the visit.

The commission, he said also supports international develop­ment through long-term partner­ships, with a focus on sustainable development and reducing poverty globally.

He, however expressed their gratitude to the Regional Minis­ter for the warm reception and assured him that they would work together to address the concerns of the region.

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John Nburidiba, on his part said, since assumption of office he had been committed to addressing security issues in the region.

He said two week ago, he responded promptly to resolve a conflict between hunters and a local community in the Zabzugu District, adding that this was a demonstration of his commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.

“Since I came to office as Northern Regional Minister I have been engaging stakeholders in the region to foster unity, cooperation and understanding to preventing future conflicts in the region,” he stated.

He added that chieftaincy and land disputes were the primary drivers of security concerns in the region hence the need for swift intervention to prevent them from escalating into tribal conflicts.

The minister said community engagement to foster dialogue and cooperation among community leaders, stakeholders and citizens were some of the strategies put in place to enhance social cohesion, and resolve disputes amicably.

He also pledged to work with the High Commission towards peace and development in Gha­na and the Northern Region in particular.
