The Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, a Catholic-friendly society, has cut the sod for the construction of a kindergarten block for the Ketan Roman Catholic School, in the Western Region.
Dubbed the legacy project, the construction of the kindergarten is part of the centenary anniversary of the society, which would be climaxed in November, 2026.
It also forms part of the society’s charitable activities to the church and community.
The KG facility would be a gated environment with a reception, infirmary, washrooms, meeting room, E- learning block and classrooms.
The Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Sir Knight Bro Sir Edward A. Prah, said the choice of Sekondi-Takoradi was because the Order had its roots there.
“We chose this relatively endowed environment to put up this early childhood facility to develop young children’s cognitive, moral, spiritual and societal growth,” he said.
The Vicar-General of the Diocese, Very Rev. Fr Francis Lemaire, on behalf of the Bishop, Most Rev. John Baptist Attakruh, said the facility must mould the future of children with the ability to live morally strong and upright lives to enable the country merit the title, “a Christian nation”.
He said the societal lapses were becoming many, and the church must begin to teach and educate Ghanaians on good Christian and sound values.
The Chief Executive of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo, lauded the church for supporting the needs of society for many years now.
He described the project as the birth of a bold vision—one that would leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
Mr Faidoo said the project would empower the youth with knowledge and skills that would make them job-ready and self-reliant.
The Supreme Director of the Noble Order of Knights and Ladies of Marshall, Sir Kt Vet. Bro. Cdr. Dr E.S.K. Kwaw, who chaired the occasion, acknowledged the challenges with fundraising for the project because of the many commitments of the Noble Order.
He said he had secured funding from some benefactors to cover the cost of cement blocks required for the entire project.
The Supreme Director further made a personal donation of GH¢3,000.00 to cover the cost of 30 bags of cement, and urged the Centenary Celebration Planning Committee to do all within their power to ensure that the project would progress smoothly to completion.
