Frequent changes in education policies by successive governments lead to a waste of resources and hinder progress in the sector, according to Professor Ato Essuman, an expert in education and development.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic following his welcome address at a two-day international conference on education, development, and innovation in Accra on Monday, Prof. Essuman emphasized the importance of continuity and thorough evaluation in shaping effective education policies.
"When one government comes, there is some kind of reform. We don't evaluate these reforms and then we bring another reform," he lamented.
"We should stay off areas like education and health, which are human development areas, and make sure that at least what one government does, another government comes, evaluate the good things which are there," Prof. Essuman advised.
"If the results show good, let's continue and let's amend as and when we think there is need for amendment," he stated
The constant changes in education policies, Prof. Essuman said lead to waste of resources.
He expressed the hope that the conference wouldb provide a platform for stakeholders to share ideas and shape the future of education and development.
"I hope that when these things really come up, we will be able to share some of the ideas that people have made known to the educational authorities," he added.
The conference brought together renowned educationalists, development partners, professionals, thought leaders, researchers, lecturers and postgraduate students to share insights, discuss emerging trends, and collectively shape the future of education and development.
It was organised by EDULearn Services Ltd, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the International Conference on Education, Development, and Innovation (INCEDI).
