THE Technical Advisor to the Ministry of the Interior, Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, has urged Ghanaians to make good citizenship a key part of their New Year resolutions, describing it as a collective responsibility in building a better and more prosperous nation.
She made the call while delivering the keynote address as Guest Speaker at the 50th anniversary celebration of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Sunday at Madina.
COP Maame Tiwaa stressed that national development begins with the everyday actions and attitudes of individual citizens. According to her, the task of nation-building should not be left solely to government and security agencies but requires the active participation of all citizens, irrespective of their social or religious backgrounds.
“Whether at home, in our workplaces, or in our communities, each of us has a role to play in shaping the future of our nation,” she said, urging especially the youth to embrace discipline and pursue legitimate means of livelihood.
She noted that good citizenship goes beyond obedience to the law and includes showing concern for one another, protecting state institutions, promoting peace, and making positive contributions to society.
COP Maame Tiwaa commended the Catholic Church for its sustained role in shaping moral values, promoting peace, and nurturing responsible citizens, describing religious institutions as key partners in national development.
She encouraged church members, particularly the youth, to live by the teachings of Christ and allow those values to reflect in their civic responsibilities and social conduct.
The anniversary celebration, held under the theme “To Proclaim a Year of God’s Favour to All,” brought together clergy, parishioners, and invited guests to mark five decades of the church’s contribution to spiritual growth and community development.
In his remarks, the Parish Priest, Reverend Father Anthony Didongo, expressed gratitude to COP Maame Tiwaa for honouring the invitation and for her inspiring message. He assured that the church would continue to support initiatives that promote peace, unity, responsible citizenship, and national development.
