MEMBERS of the Kaiser Community, a residents’ association in the Kaiser Electoral Area of Tema Community Five, have pledged to refurbish two kindergarten classrooms at the local basic school to improve early childhood education and promote community-led development.
The decision follows a request from the Headmistress of the School, who reached out to the Association after observing its consistent social and developmental activities within the community.
Speaking to The Ghanaian Times on the sidelines of the group’s End-of-Year Party for children in the area, the Chairman of the Association, Mr David Mensah, said the refurbishment project formed part of a broader commitment to support education, child welfare and social development.
He explained that the End-of-Year Party was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of children while promoting child safety, social inclusion and community development during the festive season.
Mr Mensah noted that the Association believed quality education began at the foundational level, stressing that a conducive early learning environment played a critical role in a child’s overall development.
He said the Kaiser Community had, over the years, undertaken several initiatives to improve living conditions in the area, including the organisation of children’s festive parties, community clean-up exercises, road line markings and the creation of a children’s play area.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Association, Mr Joseph Adama, said the event marked the fourth edition of the annual children’s party, which started as a small neighbourhood activity but had grown into a major community programme.
According to him, the festive season often exposed children to safety risks, particularly the increase in masquerade activities, some of which resulted in children going missing.
He added that the initiative was also designed to support children from less privileged homes who might not have access to basic festive treats during Christmas.
“Not every child gets the chance to enjoy food or drinks during the festive season, so we decided to share whatever we have and bring joy to everyone,” Mr Adama said.
He stressed that play was essential to a child’s development, explaining that it helped children build confidence, social skills and friendships, especially those who were shy or had limited social interaction at home.
The event also focused on educating children on issues such as drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and personal responsibility, with activities including quizzes, general knowledge sessions, music and games.
Prizes were awarded to children who excelled in the various activities.
