On December 27, 2025, the historic town of Elmina hosted the 2nd Annual Kwanzaa Fest, transforming the Ahomka FM Courtyard into a vibrant hub for cultural exchange, creativity, and community connection.
The free, all-day festival brought together the Elmina community and members of the African diaspora living in and visiting Ghana's Central Region, strengthening ties between local traditions and global African identities.
Held as part of the Ghana Tourism Authority's "December in GH" celebrations, Kwanzaa Fest was rooted in the principles of Kwanzaa, emphasizing unity, collective responsibility, creativity, and self-determination. Organized in collaboration with local cultural partners and donor Dr. Thomas Gordon of Philadelphia, the event served as both a celebration and a platform for dialogue, learning, and empowerment.
The program featured a rich mix of activities, including a Kwanzaa ceremony, visual art and photography exhibitions by Eba Ussher and Twinsdntbeg, a symbolic fertility altar installation facilitated by Nana B, live music and dance performances led by StreetMicMuzik, a youth talent showcase, and a book reading and storytelling session by Dr. Tracy Russell.
At its core, Kwanzaa Fest functioned as a bridge between communities and a platform to inspire and empower youth—affirming culture as a living force that connects Africa and its diaspora while nurturing the next generation of creative leaders.
