The Bono Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) on Wednesday extended its sensitization exercise to flood prone communities in the Sunyani West Municipality.
Personnel of the NADMO enlightened school children, and households around open gutters, waterways on precautionary measures, disaster management and risk awareness measures at Odomase, the Sunyani West District capital.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the sensitization exercise, Mrs Fati Kine-Lam, the Bono Regional Director of the NADMO, said the exercise was to deepen the understanding of the locals on disaster management for them to take precautionary measures.
“The sensitization is very crucial for them to also preserve the environment by guarding against environmentally unfriendly activities”, she stated, explaining that the NADMO organised the exercise periodically to refresh the minds of the people.
Mrs Kine-Lam emphasised that NADMO remained a disaster management and not relief organisation, and urged the communities to stop the unacceptable and bad practices of putting structure on waterways.
