The Office of the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, has expressed relief over the safe recovery of the four-day-old baby abducted from Mamprobi Polyclinic and reunited with her mother and family.
Her Excellency, the First Lady, commended the Ghana Police Service for their swift and professional response in apprehending the suspect and ensuring the infant’s safe return.
While empathising with families facing challenges with conception, the First Lady stressed that desperation must never lead to criminal acts.
She also urged medical facilities and maternity homes to implement stricter security measures to protect newborns and mothers under their care, emphasizing that the safety of every mother and child must be paramount.
The First Lady further encouraged anyone seeking to build families through adoption to follow lawful procedures and engage accredited adoption agencies.
The incident, which occurred at Mamprobi Polyclinic, saw the police arrest 33-year-old Latifa Iddrisu, a cloth seller in Accra, who was found with the stolen baby at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The infant’s mother confirmed her child through a distinctive birthmark, bringing an end to a tense period for the family.
