DStv audiences are invited to South Africa, Malawi, Eritrea and Uganda this week as M-Net's STUDIO 53 makes stopovers at these destinations
during the latest episode of the lifestyle program!
First stop is South Africa, where STUDIO 53's Mapumba attended the Mannenburg Jazz festival. By naming a stage in his honour, 10 years after his death, Jazz lovers still pay homage to the contribution of this master of jazz. He may have been one of SA's greats but the festival provides a stage for jazz greats from all over the world.
Next stop is Malawi, where every couple of days the sleepy town of Nkhata wakes up and traders and buyers alike are open for business when
the Ilala Ferry makes port. Passengers scramble aboard the mighty ship, ready for the adventure of a lifetime and a chance to explore the villages that dot the shores of Lake Malawi. The water quickly gets too shallow for the Ilala, so if this is your stop hop on a smaller boat and
head for shore. SUTDUO 53's Sister Fire boarded the ferry and headed to an unspoilt stretch of the lake side called Kande beach. It's the
prefect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, but there's still plenty to do.
Also in the show, STUDIO 53's Kudzai allows herself to slow down and soak up the scenery in Eritrea. There are few journeys as dramatic as
the trip from Asmara to Masawa. The cities while so close geographically couldn't be more different in every other sense. Asmara and Masawa are
perfect opposites, offering the traveller the chance to experience two cities, two cultures and two climates in just two hours. Life moves at a
leisurely pace in Eritrea, days are clocked by the movement of the sun and years by the changing of the seasons.
Lastly STUDIO 53 visits The Pyramid Casino, where expense had been spared to bring ancient Egypt to modern Uganda. Guests were welcomed by servants and sentries dressed in Egyptian splendour, and rubbed shoulders with Queen Cleopatra and Julius Cesar on the red carpet. Jazz maestro Isaiah Katumwa got the evening started on the right note as the sounds of the sax filled the air. It's easy to forget you're in Kampala at The Pyramids, the menu tantalizes with dishes from around the world
and the cellar boasts the finest international wines. Gaetano was determined that there was still time to brush up on his skills and win big at the casino.
DStv audiences in East and West Africa can watch STUDIO 53 on M-NET on Thursday may 1 at 19:30 CAT and on M-Net Series on Saturday May 3 at 18:00 CAT.
