The West Akyem Municipal Assembly and the Education Directorate are taking steps to solve the problems of pupil's poor performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Mr Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, Municipal Chief Executive said.
He told the assembly at its sitting at Asamankese on Wednesday that head teachers who were not performing creditably and had stayed at one school for over ten years would be transferred.
Mr Sintim Aboagye said performance agreement would be signed between the education director and all head teachers of basic schools and that the Teacher's Awards Scheme would be based strictly on performance.
He said: "With solid infrastructure base in the development of education in the municipality, we as parents, guardians and stakeholders in education cannot afford to let the education of our children degenerate further than what is presently pertaining".
Mr Sintim Aboagye said the zero percent scored by some schools in previous BECE examinations should be a thing of the past.
"We must therefore put our shoulders to the wheel to ensure that educational standards are improved and sustained," he said.
He noted that work on the manufacture of 16,000 peaces of furniture for basic schools in the municipality had been completed for distribution.
Additionally, 2,000 pieces of dual desk and 8,000 pieces of mono desks would also be ready soon, he added.
Mr Sintim Aboagye said the assembly had constructed a number of school buildings to ensure that children had decent places to learn.
