The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will grant 0.6 million U.S. dollars to help Vietnam develop a more effective and accountable secondary education system.
Under an agreement signed here Monday between the two sides, the money will be used to help the Ministry of Education and Training implement a new regulatory framework for scholarships and student loans, and adoption of international standards for assessing students' learning outcomes.
It will also be spent on developing junior secondary teacher standards and the fundamental school quality level for senior secondary education, ensuring effective and affordable textbook production and delivery, and improving use of information and communications technology in education.
"Development of secondary education has enabled Vietnam to produce competitive labor, and also contributed to equitable socioeconomic development of the country. Yet, there is still a lot to be done to improve further the quality, effectiveness and sustainability of public schooling as Vietnam becomes a middle- income country" said Ayumi Konishi, ADB Country Director for Vietnam.
