Government is to construct five polyclinics in Northern Region under a 7.6 million euros assistance from Austria.
They would be constructed at Kpandai, Chereponi, Janga, Tatale and Karanga.
Ministry of Health on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with an Austrian Engineering firm Vamed Engineering, for the project that would include provision of equipment, staff bungalows, maternity wards and water harvesting systems.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Jackson Abankwah, Head of Capital Investment Management Unit of the Ministry said two million euros out of the assistance was a grant while the remaining 4.6 was a loan.
Major Courage Quashigah (rtd), Minister for Health, said construction of the polyclinics would help bridge the gap between the north and south in addition, to reduction on the high rate of maternal mortality in the Region.
Mr Oliver Storzer, Project Manager of Vamed Engineering for Middle East and Africa, said work would begin in February next year to be completed within 15 months.
