Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning on Tuesday, inaugurated a two-storey classroom block and a library for Old Tafo Methodist Primary and Junior High School (JHS) in Kumasi at a cost of GH¢ 290,000.
Dr Akoto Osei who is also Member of Parliament for Tafo-Pankrono Constituency initiated the projects jointly funded by the GETFund, HIPC Fund and Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).
He emphasised the importance of education towards socio-economic development therefore, Government had instituted measures to promote education.
Dr Akoto Osei pledged to assist in the provision of classroom blocks, potable water, electricity, toilets and other social amenities to enhance the living standards of the people.
He appealed to parents and guardians to reciprocate the gesture by Government and provide their children and wards the basic needs to improve teaching and learning in schools.
Dr Akoto Osei advised the authorities and students to make judicious use of the facilities to prolong their life span.
Very Reverend Osei Bonsu, Ashanti Regional Manager of Methodist Educational Unit, said enrolment in the school was 230 and hoped the facilities would assist the children to learn more.
He appealed to Dr Akoto Osei for assistance to rehabilitate its fence wall to ensure discipline in the schools.
Mr Moses Donkor, New Patriotic Party Constituency Chairman, said communities in the constituency had been provided with classroom blocks, electricity, water and other amenities and commended Dr Akoto Osei for his immense contribution towards development of the area.
He advised the electorate to vote massively for Dr Akoto Osei as the MP and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President on December 7.
