Mr Joe Baidoo Ansah, Minister of Aviation, on Thursday said the NPP government was committed to ensuring that the Takoradi Airport is safe and secure for use.
Speaking during the handing over of the rehabilitated Takoradi Airport, he said government has so far spent 14.2 million dollars on various projects at the airport.
"The state of the Takoradi Airport was too poor to be used and now it's better and ready", he said.
According to him, government is ready to equip the Takoradi Air Force Station, to make it possible for the air force to execute their duties effectively and efficiently.
Group Captain Kit Caesar, Second in Command at the Takoradi Air Force Station briefed the Minister about the Takoradi Airport renovation project, pointing out that the airfield has not seen any renovated for over 30 years now.
He said the arrival and departure halls and the 1,057 meter runway have now been renovated while the construction of a VVIP lounge has been completed.
He said work on the control tower is yet to be completed due to delays by the contractor, Consar Construction Limited.
Group Captain Caesar said challenges facing the station included encroachment of its lands and appealed to government to fence the station.
"We are very grateful to the government for developing the airfield", he said.
Yaacov Raviv, a Manager of Sonitra Limited, who handed over the project to the Aviation Minister, said the project had been executed effectively, due to the good relationship with the stakeholders.
