Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF) Ghana, on Thursday, organized a peace march through the principal streets of Cape Coast on the need for a peaceful conduct of the election on Sunday.
The marchers included women lawyers in Cape Coast and various women's organisation holding placards some of which read, 'one nation one peace', aim for peace, vote for fairness and peace and "preach peace and eschew violence".
In an address later at the forecourt of the Cape Coast castle, Ms Bernice Sam, Program Coordinator for WiLDAF, called on political parties, their supporters and all peace loving Ghanaians to ensure a peaceful election.
She said members of WiLDAF in the central region had organized the march because whenever there is conflict in any country, it is women and children that suffer most.
She said as a result, women of Ghana do not want to fall victim to what has happened in other countries.
According to her, the march was also to commemorate a 16- day activity against gender violence, which is marked from November 25 to December 10 each year, to create awareness about the negative effects of gender violence.
