Black Raster “ Abubakar Ahmed” of Hit Fm; Dzifa Nkansa of TV Africa; Wofa Yaw “ Yaw Poku Dankwa” of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture” and TV
Africa have been nominated for this years maiden Edition of Ghana Cultural Awards 2008.
The Country Awards Council Ghana, CACG believes Culture is an important tool in promoting national development and the above named nominees have demonstrated envious attributes with regards to promoting, maintaining and safeguarding of our true Ghanaian and African Cultural Heritage and
Values.
The Council is also of the view that western culture is dominating the African culture and Black Raster, Dzifa Nkansa and Wofa Yaw and TV Africa have taken an entrenched position towards maintaining the true and original values in ensuring that the pace is set for using culture as the benchmark for promoting national development agenda.
The Chairman of the Board of Governors of CACG, His Awardship Major Courage E. K. Quashigah Rtd. has stated that one of the most pressing
challenges facing Ghana is how to skilfully appropriate the suppressed Ghanaian values and traditions in its development process so that they can be opened decisively for progress. He further noted that no country could develop if it relegates its culture to the background and concentrated on Western values that were of little relevance to its people. In addition,
he said there is need for Ghanaians to demonstrate a well developed mind, which has good holistic grasp of Ghana, its prospects and its challenges – pretty much of which is influenced by its culture.
In recognition of some efforts made by several individuals and organizations in our attempts to
raise the level of confidence among Ghanaians, with regard to Ghanaian values and traditions, and help develop a new generation of elites who can think holistically from the foundations of their cultural values and traditions up to the global level, as the Europeans, the Japanese, the
Chinese, the Malaysians, and the South Koreans have been doing, the Country Awards Council will honour these nominees at this year’s 2008
Ghana Culture Awards Ceremony.
The ceremony has been slated for 5th of January 2009 at the international Press Centre.
