The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Jacob Boon has remanded a 22-year-old labourer into prison custody for allegedly raping a 23-year-old unemployed at Juaben in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.
Isaac Kwabena Acheampong, whose plea was not taken, will re-appear before the court on January 26.
Three other accomplices who took part in gang raping the victim are on the run and efforts are being made to arrest them.
According to the facts of the case as presented by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Stephen Dobara, Acheampong was a labourer and lived at Juaben as well as the complainant.
On November 22, last year Acheampong whose love proposals to the complainant had been rejected on several occasions met the complainant at a funeral and invited her to a drinking spot where he offered her a bottle of Guinness which was suspected to have been laced.
Minutes after taking the drink, the complainant became drowsy, enabling Acheampong and his three other accomplices who are on the run to carry her into Acheampong's room where they took turns to rape her.
After the act they locked up the complainant who was still unconscious in the room and went back to the funeral grounds.
A younger sister of the complainant who was in her company before she was invited to the drinking spot by Acheampong had a tip-off that the complainant was in Acheampong's room and informed her brothers who were also at the funeral.
The brothers then went to Acheampong's house, broke into the room after several knocks on the door received no response.
They then found the complainant lying naked and unconscious on the bed and took her home where she narrated her ordeal after gaining consciousness.
A report was made to the police who issued her a medical form to attend hospital, the result of which revealed that the complainant had suffered multiple vaginal abrasions.
Acheampong was later arrested and charged with the offence while efforts are being made to arrest his other accomplices.
