Mr. Ato Essuman, a former Central Regional Representative on the Council of State, has called on the people of the region to rekindle their communal spirit and support the government to accelerate development of the area.
"Let us make 2009 a year of communal activities ", he said in a New Year message to the people.
The message appealed to the people to bury their political differences and rally behind the government to develop the region and the nation as a whole.
"No one should abstain from communal activities because it is not his or her party that is in government", the message stated and appealed to the chiefs to sanction people who would absent themselves from communal labour without tangible reasons.
The message expressed gratitude to the people of the region, particularly, chiefs, Municipal and District Chief executives, Presiding and Assembly Members for their support and cooperation during his tenure of office as a Council of State Member.
Mr. Essuman, who is seeking re-election, said the region made modest but steadfast progress during his tenure in office.
He said a number of the Municipal and District Assemblies in the region had set up Educational Funds with the start-up fund he provided and awarded scholarships from his personal resources to some needy students to further their education.
He said he facilitated development projects through out the region and also contributed to the construction of palaces for some traditional councils.
