Many men in the Effutu-Awutu-Senya area are refusing to cater for their children, the local office of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has reported.
The Municipal Director of the Commission, Mr Richmond Mensah, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that there were many complaints against the men refusing to accept responsibility for pregnancies, especially in 2007 and 2008.
Mr Mensah said acting upon reports lodged to his office last year, CHRAJ rescued and enrolled in school some three children who had been engaged in dangerous fishing in Yeji in the Brong Ahafo Region.
He said last year, the local CHRAJ office received 61 complaints bordering on non-maintenance of children by their biological fathers, as well as breach of contract and inheritance.
Mr Mensah appealed to the government to resource the Commission, especially at the district level, to enable it to perform its duties.
