Civilians in Akyem Achiase in the Eastern Region, have been advised to consider soldiers, especially those at the Jungle Warfare School in the area as friends.
Residents in the area with grievances against any soldier should seek redress at the appropriate quarters instead of taking the law into their own hands.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Paul Aduhene, Akyem Swedru District Police Commander, made the appeal in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua to explain recent attacks on some soldiers at the School by a group of people from Akyem Achiase.
He said last Thursday at about 2200 hours at Akyem Achiase, a soldier (name withheld), who was returning from the town to the School was assaulted by unidentified persons.
DSP Aduhene said the soldier sustained injuries and had been treated at the Jungle Warfare School clinic.
He said while the search for the culprits was going on, an officer at the School, who was returning from Akyem Achiase in his car last Sunday, noticed that some people formed a human shield at the junction of the School to prevent vehicles from entering or leaving the School.
DSP Aduhene said the officer tooted the horn of his car and a young man, identified as Kwame Boadu, jumped on the bonnet banged it and in the process damaged the windscreen of the car.
The District Police Commander said the crowd fled when it noticed that the officer was calling his colleagues for assistance.
He said Boadu was being sought by the police and investigation into the case was ongoing.
