The Ghana Education Service (GES), has said that it was not under any strict obligation to reengage teachers who vacated their posts for tertiary or university education.
The Service has advised teachers to strictly adhere to rules and regulations regarding the award of study leave to avert any inconveniences and hardships.
A statement signed by Mr Charles Parker-Allotey, Director, Public Relations Unit of GES, expressed concern about the erroneous impression that "the GES does not take active interest in the welfare of teachers who return to the Service after pursuing various courses in tertiary institutions".
It explained that there were three categories of teachers who pursued courses at the tertiary institutions annually.
The statement said "They are teachers who are granted study leave with pay based on the study leave quota approved by the GES Council, those granted study leave without pay and teachers who vacate their posts and enter tertiary institutions without any formal approval from management of the GES."
It noted that teachers who went on study leave with pay were still employees of the GES and were posted immediately after their courses.
The statement said " teachers who go on approved study leave without pay are also reengaged and posted to schools where their services are needed" and that they enjoyed the same benefit like those who were granted study leave with pay upon completion.
It stressed that teachers who vacated their post and enter tertiary institutions could only be reengaged when their services were needed.
