Iran's Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said on Saturday that it was impossible to deprive Iran of nuclear technology, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.
"Iran has observed all the international regulations and depriving Iran of nuclear technology and energy for peaceful purposes is impossible for the Iranian nation," Larijani said in a meeting with former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
Chancellor Schroeder arrived in Iran on Thursday on a four-day visit. He also met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Saturday.
In a report on the Iranian nuclear issue to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Thursday, IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei said only 164 gas centrifuges that were able to produce low-enriched uranium had been newly installed at Iran's Natanz uranium enrichment centre since December, slower than the past.
Although the UN Security Council has implemented sanctions on Iran, the country still refused to fulfil UN's requirement of stopping its uranium enrichment activity, said the report.
Iran's uranium enrichment program is questioned by many parties. Western countries, including the United States, claim that Iran intends to secretly develop nuclear weapons.
Iran, however, insists that its nuclear plan is only for peaceful purposes, and continues its uranium enrichment activity despite the Western pressure and relevant UN resolutions and sanctions.
