A Circuit Court in Accra on Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old driver, Reuben Senyo Gidiglo to seven years imprisonment in hard labour after pleading guilty to a charge of defilement.
Gidiglo, pleaded with the court to forgive him for defiling a 10-year old pupil but the court convicted him on his plea.
Gidiglo who resides at Maajor, is said to have taken his pound of flesh after purchasing chewing gum and a bottle of Tampico beverage for the victim.
"You have made a mistake of your life and it has caused you, since you have pleaded guilty to the offence I will give you the minimum sentence." the court said.
Gidiglo continued to beg the court saying his parents were dead and that he was taking care of his siblings who would have no one to care for them if he went to jail.
The court however warned accused persons arraigned on charges of defilement not to waste its time by going through the full trial if they knew they were guilty of the offence, because that action attracted stiffer punishment.
Prosecution said the complainant was the victim's father.
On March 10, this year, at Maajor, while the victim was returning from school, Gidiglo bought chewing gum and Tampico, a beverage for her and lured her to a spot near the school where he had sex with her.
During the act, some workers at a site spotted them and apprehended Gidiglo.
A complaint was lodged with the Police and the victim was issued with a medical report for medical examination.
The case was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victim's Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.
