Miss Eliken Woeko, a student of University of Education Winneba (UEW), has appealed to workers, especially police personnel to utilise their resources well and venture into profitable investments to guarantee their future.
She said undertaking housing projects, trading and engaging in agriculture, such as fish or crop farming would ensure regular income after retirement.
Miss Woeko made the appeal at a forum organised by Department of Psychology and Education Guidance and Counselling, of UEW in collaboration with Ghana Police Service at Winneba on Wednesday.
It was attended by police personnel in Winneba and recruits from Police Training School and under the theme "Preparing for retirement in the Ghana Police Service".
She advised that wasting their money on alcoholic beverages and immoral acts should be avoided and invested in income generating ventures that could make them earn a living during retirement.
Miss Woeko urged police personnel to contact insurance companies to avail themselves of available opportunities to help them to be self sufficient after retirement.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Okanta, Officer Commanding Central Regional Police Training School at Winneba appealed to police personnel to let the forum remind them of their retirement and start preparing towards it.
He stressed the need for people in active service to join credit unions or patronise the services of insurance companies to enable them get financial support during retirement.
Mr Epiphany Agbeshire, Assistant Registrar of UEW, urged police personnel, especially those in school to take insurance cover immediately after their training to secure their future.
He advised them to eschew all forms of acts that would endanger their lives and lead good moral life.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Yiribaare, Effutu Municipal Police Commander, commended the speakers for their advice to the police.
