Ms Sena Akua Dansua, Minister of Women and Children's Affairs, has appealed to the clergy, chiefs and social commentators to speak against domestic violence and encourage families to respect the dignity of each member.
Ms Dansua said this at a day's seminar at Kpando to mark International Women's Day under the theme, "Women and men united to end domestic violence against women and girls".
She said the country's domestic violence records were bad and needed to be addressed from all angles.
"Issues of domestic violence are on the ascendancy and without a concerted effort from all stakeholders, the country cannot achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015," the Minister said.
Ms Rita Narh, Volta Regional Coordinator of Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, said 275 domestic violence related cases had been recorded in the last three months in the region.
She said assault came tops with 34 reported cases followed by defilement and urged stakeholders especially parents and guardians to be watchful.
Some participants expressed worry about pornography in the media and called on community leaders to institute sanctions against indecent dressing.
Ms Lena Alai, Volta Regional Director of the Department of Women, told participants to report domestic violence cases.
