Reverend Prophetess Gladys Dark, a missionary from the USA has said knowledge in Christianity mustn't be a means for people to find employment in the church just because of the "luxury" that comes with it.
She said acquiring Christian education is not a means to take advantage of the vulnerable in society but that it must be borne out of a true calling from God.
Rev. Prophetess Dark said this at the maiden graduation ceremony of the Transformed Bible College (TBC) of the Transformed Life Ministries in Accra on Saturday, which saw twelve graduands awarded with certificates and diplomas in
Advanced Bible Ministry and degrees in Theology.
She said much as Christian education was important and the church and nation must give prominence to it, Christian religion would be like any other secular institution if the church limited all its activities to only academic excellence without the practical and
spiritual aspect.
Reverend Jonas Henaku, the Principal of the College said the importance of Christian education and personnel development could not be over-emphasized especially in this informational and technological age.
According to him, the need for Christian education had become very crucial and urgent because of current challenges and difficulties
which confronted mankind impacting on peoples' faith.
"The prevalence of false teachings, wrong doctrines, immaturity, ministerial scandals, which are all fighting the Church, call for a re-look at the content of Christian education.
"If the church is in crisis today, it is because of the lack of proper Christian education and personnel development, the purpose with which the Church of Jesus Christ was founded," Pastor Henaku said.
But, he added that God would raise a new "army" with a new understanding, vision, attitude and total outlook who would stand for the eschatological struggle and the end-time revival.
The establishment of the TBC, he said, was informed by the above challenges saying: "the glory of the Church has to be restored through the raising and equipping of a new brood of leadership who will serve their own generation."
The Founder and Chancellor of the School, Bishop Dusan Pobee prayed for the graduands and advised them to go out there and be an example to the world.
He said "the true student is the one who puts into practice what he or she has learnt and being trained for."
