A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced two people to five years imprisonment each on their own plea for stealing six bags of cocoa beans belonging to the management of Diaby Company Limited, a private cocoa buying company at Bogoso.
They were Hadi Alhassan and Kofi Asante, Romeo an accomplice is on the run while Akwasi Adjei, a driver was fined GH¢180 or in default serve 12 months imprisonment in hard labour..
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Anthony Danso told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that at dawn on February 28, this year, the complainant, Bogoso District Manager of the company, detected that its main depot door had been broken into and six bags of sealed cocoa beans worth GH¢612 had been stolen.
He said, a complaint was made to the police and Adjei, driver of a taxi cab used to convey the cocoa beans was arrested on his way to Beppoh in Prestea Huni-Valley District.
Police Inspector Danso said Adjei confessed that he was hired by Hadi, Asante and Romeo to convey the cocoa beans to one Ayisi, a fuel dealer at Beppoh for which he charged them GH¢10.
He said Alhassan and Asanti were arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
