Ms Sherry Ayittey, Minister for Environment and Science, on Tuesday called for the adoption of responsible lifestyles to ensure that quality of life was not compromised.
She said values and opportunities that made humans to achieve a better life expectancy rate had either through greed or ignorance been undermined resulting in all forms ill health.
Ms Ayittey said this when she opened a five-day Annual Meeting of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) in Accra to share experiences, upgrade knowledge on impact assessment issues.
Ms Ayittey, whose speech was read by her Deputy, Dr Omane Boamah, said the interests and well-being of humans to socio-economic development efforts of nations were crucial and must be protected.
She said the knowledge gap between the environment and its relationship with human well-being was huge, adding that much needed to be done to bridge it and called for a functional environmental knowledge to champion challenges such as climate change among other things facing the world.
She commended the IAIA for providing the international forum for advancing innovation and communication for best practices in all forms of impact assessment.
Professor Harashina Sachihiko, President of IAIA called for the adoption of environmentally sustainable measures to ensure sound economic progress.
Prof Sachihiko said governments must prioritize issues of environment, social sustainability and the economy because the well-being of humans depended on.
This Year's Annual Meeting is being attended by members from over 100 countries across the world.
