A Tamale High Court presided over by Mr Justice Lawrence Mensah, on Wednesday, adjourned until October 22 as the jury was not unanimous in its verdict in a murder case involving a 37-year-old farmer.
The adjournment is to allow for a new set of jury to be constituted to decide on the verdict as five of the members of the jury found the accused, Bugri Basheli, a resident of Kurugu near Walewale in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region, guilty while the two others returned a not guilty verdict.
Mr. Salia Abdul-Qudus, Senior State Attorney, prosecuting, told the court that on May 1, 2007, the accused shot to death Nyamba Aduku, a farmer friend.
Mr Abdul-Qudus said the accused saw the deceased with three other people near his house chatting and laughing.
He said the accused, who mistook the deceased for an enemy who was spreading rumours about him that he was a thief, went into his room, brought out a single barrel gun, ordered the rest of the people to take cover and shot Aduku to death.
Mr. Issah Mamud, the defence counsel, argued that Basheli was cleaning his gun when it accidentally went off killing the friend.
