The Saint Mary's Sanctuary in the Catholic Church at Buoho near Kumasi, has donated assorted items worth several thousands of Ghana cedis to the inmates of the Kumasi Central Prisons.
The items included bales of second hand clothing, food items and assorted carbolic soap.
Presenting the items which formed part of the 60th anniversary of the Sanctuary, Mr Frank Yeboah, President of the Sanctuary, said the donation was their widow's mite towards the upkeep of the inmates.
Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Thomas Ofori Tsibu, acting chaplain of the Prisons, who received the items, thanked the church for the gesture and appealed to philanthropists and charitable organizations for assistance for the upkeep of the inmates.
Reverend Father Francis Aning Amoah, Rector of the Sanctuary, later prayed for the inmates and the officers.
