The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) as part of the drive towards achieving the goal of becoming the "centre of excellence", at the weekend held an awards ceremony to reward its hard working, dedicated and long serving employees.
In all, 107 workers were honoured with prizes ranging from flat and plasma screen television sets, double-deck refrigerators and Decoded Video Deck to gas cookers with ovens.
Mr. Chris Akanbobnaab, a Senior Health Administrator, who emerged the overall best worker, took home a brand new air-conditioned Tata saloon car.
This was the first time in 10 years that the facility had given out such prize awards.
Mr George Sipa Adjah Yankey, Minister of Health, noted that motivation of workers was vital to the promotion of selfless and dedicated services.
He reminded the health workers of the need to focus more on the primary duty of providing quality health care to the people.
Dr. Sipa Yankey said the Ministry would continue to take a careful look at the distribution of health workers to all parts of the country to ensure that the rural population got access to quality health care.
He also pledged government's determination to complete the new maternity building at the hospital, work on which, had been on-going for decades, to help mothers and their babies enjoy some comfort and prevent maternal deaths.
He called for effective health education to help reduce the prevalence of diseases.
Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Chief Executive of the Hospital, said in addition to the re-institution of the best worker awards, the facility had lined up welfare packages for the staff to encourage them to work harder.
He expressed appreciation to corporate bodies and institutions for donating various items to support the programme.
Earlier, at a thanksgiving service, the staff of the hospital said prayers for the peace and unity of the country and God's guidance for the nation's leadership.
