The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Police commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP)Ben Wonkyi, has warned drivers not to allow their mates to drive their vehicles, since it is an offence for anyone to drive without a license.
He said any mate found driving vehicle, especially with passengers onboard, would be prosecuted.
ASP Wonkyi gave the warning at his maiden durbar with members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Taxi Drivers at Ajumako.
The Police Commander advised drivers and car owners to ensure that all vehicles have road worthy certificates, Insurance Policy cover and other relevant documents.
He urged drivers to do "defensive driving to ensure the safety of commuters and properties on the roads," adding that they should always try to prevent accidents.
ASP Wonkyi appealed to car owners and drivers to ensure the regular maintenance of their vehicles, be abreast with road signs and be very careful on the road.
The drivers on their part appealed to the District Assembly to get them a spacious lorry park, since the current place cannot accommodate all the vehicles, resulting in some of them parking along the roads in town.
