Mr. Kwame Gyedu Nuako, Nkoranza South District Coordinating Director, has called for the rehabilitation of roads in the area to enhance economic activities.
He said farmers contributed to the development of the country and appealed to government to reciprocate this by rehabilitating roads for easy movement of farm produce.
Mr. Nuako was addressing about 100 farmers from Nkoranza South and Nkoranza North districts at an awareness creation workshop on the Root and Tuber Improvement and Marketing Programme (RTIMP).
Organised by the district agriculture development unit of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the programme is aimed at encouraging farmers to cultivate more root and tuber crops.
Mr. George Osei-Asibe of Techiman zonal office of the RTIMP urged the farmers to form groups so they could settle on appreciable prices for their produce.
He said management of the RTIMP would establish an apex body that would offer technical advice to both food producers and processors to come out with quality products and better market prices.
He urged the farmers to cultivate cassava and other root tubers in large quantities for the sustainability of the RTIMP.
