An Accra Circuit Court on Monday sentenced an 18-year-old driver's mate, Kwame Malik, to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling an 11-year-old pupil.
Malik pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, but the court presided over by Mr C.A. Wilson found him guilty after an eight-month trial and convicted him.
Police Inspector Anthony Afetsi said at about 2330 hours on February 6 this year, Malik escorted the victim and her mother, Ms Daniela Asante, to their house at Abokobi, near Accra.
The prosecution said when they got to the house Ms Asante went to bed leaving the victim to do her homework, while Malik left for his house.
Malik, however, sneaked back to Ms Asante's house and lured the victim into an uncompleted room adjacent their home and had sex with her on a bench.
At about 0130 hours Ms Asante, who did not find her daughter beside her, shouted out her name.
The victim emerged from the uncompleted building and during interrogation narrated her ordeal to her mother.
Ms Asante then reported the incident to the Police and Malik was arrested.
