The badly decomposed body of Abu Dalandi, 6, who drowned in the Dayi River while trying to remove his football on September 14, has been found one week after the incident.
Mr Daniel Ablordey, Hohoe District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that deceased, in the company of his brother, Thomas, had gone to the river to swim but as they stood at the bank, his football dropped from his hands into the water.
In an attempt to retrieve it, he drowned as the water level had risen because of the recent torrential rains.
Mr Ablordey said Thomas abandoned his rescue plans when he noticed the swiftness of the tide but screamed for help.
He said the body was discovered downstream at Blufo Tornu near Kitikpaa, an emerging suburb of Hohoe.
Meanwhile, the body has been deposited at the Hohoe Municipal morgue for autopsy.
