Government is to institutionalize youth participation at all levels of decision making to nurture democratic culture in the country, Nii Nortey Dua, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports said in Accra on Tuesday.
Inducting a six-member National Executive Committee of University Students Association of Ghana (USAG), the Deputy Minister said "The Ministry is working feverishly to ensure that the national youth policy would enable the youth participate in national deliberations and productive activities for national development."
Nii Dua said for the nation to keep up its pace of development, educational institutions and other bodies in the country needed to be strengthen to work together and address challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, diseases and filth.
"We have a collective responsibility in the country's higher educational sector to contribute significantly to help Ghana gain her push in socio-economic development," he said.
Nii Dua advised the executives to be humble, selfless, honest and tolerant to serve those who voted for them into office and said: "Remember you have a charge to keep and a calling to fulfil."
Mr. Enoch Anhwere Afoakwah, President of USAG, expressed poor sanitation in the various educational institutions and called for prompt action to prevent pandemic.
He appealed to government and all stakeholders in the education sector to increase the number of students provided with sponsorship package to enable needy but brilliant students gain admission to university.
The other executive members were; Ms. Amisale Agivert, General Secretary, Mr. Prosper Aabulleh, Information and International Relations, Mr. Bernard Baah, Treasurer, Mr. Kofi Ohene-Sakyi, Coordinating Secretary and Ms Janet Seidu, Women's Commissioner.
