A circuit court in Kumasi, on Thursday remanded Brenda Baffour-Awuah into prison custody, for swindling Madam Grace Adoma, her mother, of GH¢4,000.
Madam Adoma, who returned to the country from Germany, sent her daughter to lodge the money in her bank account but the accused instead bought a taxi cab with the money.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing, would re-appear at court on Wednesday, October 14.
Police Chief Inspector Mercy Dokyi told the court, presided over by Mr. Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that Madam Adoma
On July 7 gave the money to her daughter to be deposited in her account with the Atwima Mponua Rural Bank.
Prosecution said the accused instead of depositing the money, went into hiding and later informed her mother on phone that she did not pay the money into her account and promised to refund the money within a month.
Chief Insp Dokyi said after the one month deadline, Baffour-Awuah sent her son to gave GH¢1,000 and the pass-book to Madam Adoma.
Prosecution said all efforts to collect the money failed and Madam Adoma reported the matter to the Police.
Chief Insp Dokyi said the accused in a caution statement said the money was given to some one to trade in gold.
Prosecutions said the Police were making efforts to impound the taxi cab.
