Anti-government militants raided a police checkpoint in Baghlan province north of Afghanistan late Sunday night and killed seven police constables, a police officer Ahmad Jan said Monday.
"The enemies attacked a police post in Baghal-e-Markazi district Sunday night killing seven policemen,"Jan said.
He also added that a militant commander Qari Mansoor was killed in the firefight.
Meantime, Hadid (like many Afghans uses one name) in talks with media via cellular phone from undisclosed location claimed that he speaks for the Hizb-e-Islami and the militants loyal to the radical group carried out the attack.
He made this claim while Taliban outfit is active in Baghlan and the neighboring Kunduz province and often target government interests.
Parallel to Taliban outfit the radical Islamic group Hizb-e- Islami led by dissident warlord Gulbudin Hekmatyar has also been fighting against Afghan government and NATO-led troops based in Afghanistan.
