Belgian war correspondent Yves Debay was killed while covering fighting between Syrian government troops and rebels in the north of the conflict-hit country, opposition activists reported Friday.
Debay, a former soldier, was killed by army snipers stationed on the rooftop of a prison in the northern city of Aleppo, they added.
Activists posted online footage of what they said was Debay's body.
There was no immediate comment from the Syrian government.
The Committee to Protect Journalists, an independent organization based in New York, has said that at least 19 journalists have been killed since November last year while covering the Syrian conflict,
making the country one of the world's most dangerous places for journalists.
According to Dubai-based Al Arabiya television, Debay became a journalist in 1985.
He then became a correspondent for the newly-established Raids magazine for which he covered the Lebanese civil war, the two Gulf wars, as well as wars in Yugoslavia and Afghanistan, added the
broadcaster.
