Accra, 4th February 2011: Happy 98.9FM will on Valentine’s Day, host a colourful wedding ceremony for a record number of fifty (50) couples. The much anticipated event will be held at the auditorium of the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday, February 14th 2011.
The Happy FM Valentine Mass Wedding has grown in number and prestige. This year’s event, the fourth in the series, has attracted 50 couples from across the country. Happy FM organises a colourful white mass wedding for couples every year on Valentine’s Day. Over the past four years, the annual ceremony has seen close to a hundred (100) couples joined together in happy matrimony. To qualify for the wedding, a couple must have performed all customary rites and be recognised as husband and wife in the traditional way.
According to Station Manager Bismark Brown, management and organizers had a tough time deciding on only fifty (50) couples for this year out of the hundreds that applied to be part of the biggest marriage ceremony in the country. This is one our community social responsibility initiatives that is hailed country wide, because it does not only bring joy and relief to couples who desire to have a white wedding but do not have the means to do so. It is also significant to the larger community because the ceremony offers an opportunity for the celebration of love (Valentine) in a more meaningful way. “The Happy FM Valentine Mass Wedding is a dream come true to many people, and we are happy the event continues to grow year by year” he says.
Before the grand ceremony, all participating couples are taken through sessions of counseling, aired live on Happy98.9FM on Wednesday evenings between 9pm and 10pm. Other pre-event activities include "Don't Mind Your Wife" cooking contest, (the men Cook for their women) Treasure Hunt, Quizes and many more. Three (3) outstanding couples will be flown to Nigeria and South Africa for their honeymoon whilst the rest enjoy their honeymoon in Hotels across Ghana. The wedding ceremony will be followed by a Dinner Dance at the Tesano Royale Gardens in Accra. Officiating Minister for the ceremony will be Rev. Dr. Arthur Mensah of the Calvary Methodist Church, Adabraka, Accra.
