His bid to the position according to him was to help the party reclaim all lost parliamentary seats in the region and win the 2020 general elections.

He said “In party organisation, your status does not really matter, it is your contribution to the party,” and indicated that the objective of the party was to win power, serve the people and ensure that the welfare of the people was properly catered for.

“So from whatever angle you can contribute; I think that is where I should put my effort,” Mr Tia said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the party’s Constituency office at Zuarungu.

Asked why he would contest for regional level position and not national, Mr Tia said the region needed his worth of experience adding that, “whatever you do at the region, contributes to the national policies and development. I have a worth of experience, it is needed here at this material moment of our party and that is what I have considered.”

Mr Tia who is a former Member of Parliament for the Talensi Constituency and served as Minister of Information in the late President John Evans Atta Mills’ administration, said politics was dynamic, and was assuming a dimension where experience, organisational skills and influence was needed to help the party regain power.

 Mr Tia said he intended to organise the structures of the party at the grassroots level to make them functional to achieve the objectives for which the party was formed, “it is not just occupying a position and sitting down to be handed over certain activities. You must be innovative in your day-to-day affairs,” he emphasised.

He recalled some years ago when the region was “the sole reserve of the NDC, 1992 the other parties withdrew, so from 1993 to 1996 all the seats were occupied by the NDC but after the 1996 election, it was proven that it was not because of their withdrawal. We won all the seats again. So it is possible that we can win all the seats again,” he said.

The former Ambassador who is in the race with Alhaji Boonaba Mumuni, the incumbent and Alhaji Osman Kasim Alem, said he would introduce strategies to help the party regain power.He used the opportunity to call on all aspirants in the party to see the election of executives as an internal issue and not a fight between themselves, “we should have the sensibility of each other at heart, we are only offering to serve and nothing more.”

He appealed to the delegates to vote massively for him to lead the party in the region to ensure that the NDC was voted back to power.

Mr Faisal Bryan Iddrisu, a member of the Regional Election Committee told the GNA that a total of 53 aspirants had picked domination forms, but only 47 of them filed to contest for various regional positions, and that the vetting process would last for two days.

He disclosed that fully registered paid-up members, commitment among other qualities would form part of the criteria the vetting committee would consider, and admonished all aspirants to desist from politics of insults, and urged delegates to advocate and vote for candidates who can regain power.
