The Professor Joshua Alabi team on Tuesday picked a nomination form on his behalf in fulfilment of part of the requirement to contest for the flagbearer position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The team, led by Mr Ken Dzirassah, the former First and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, presented a banker's draft amounting to GHC20,000 to Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, the Secretary General of the NDC, at the party's Headquarters.
Mr Dzirassah said the amount represented Prof Alabi's fulfillment of his initial requirement to become a presidential candidate in the forthcoming NDC presidential elections in January, 2019.
He, therefore, appealed to the National Executive Council (NEC) to call to order, some National and Regional Executives, who openly declared their support for a particular candidate to ensure an even playing field for all aspirants.
He said “giving equal grounds to all would not only ensure clean and fair elections but would also guarantee that whoever was elected would be a candidate of choice and not by casualty. "We are therefore urging the NEC to establish an even playing ground for all," he said.
Mr Asiedu-Nketia thanked them for the concerns raised and assured of the Party's resolve to conduct a clean, fair and open elections. He said: the trick of the game is vigilance and no one person sitting at the Secretariat could see through everything".
He urged all aspirants and their teams to be vigilant and report any misconduct to the authorities for redress. So far, two aspirants, Former President John Dramani Mahama and Prof Joshua Alabi have picked their forms since the opening of nomination yesterday, December 3.
The former President John Dramani Mahatma's nomination form was picked on his behalf by the some party members from the Asawase Constituency.
