Ms. Francisca Oteng Mensah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre East, is funding the rehabilitation of streets linking the sprawling peri-urban communities in the constituency, to the main roads.
Speaking to newsmen after inspecting some of the rehabilitation works at Ahwiaa, she said the aim was to make the roads more accessible to residents.
She noted that about 80 per cent of road networks in the newly-developed communities were deplorable making it difficult for ambulances and fire engines to ply during medical emergencies and other disasters, including fires.
Ms. Oteng Mensah said the rehabilitation works which started two years ago, was aimed at improving living conditions in those communities and pledged her commitment to continue to work to improve the road networks in all communities in the area until they received central government’s interventions
Nana Yaa Pomaah, a resident, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), expressed joy that steps were being taken by the MP to resolve some of the basic challenges facing residents in the area.
She said during heavy rains, people living at the side of the Akwasia River were not able to cross over to their houses and cars could not also cross to the other side of the road.
Mr. Kwasi Osei, another resident, told the GNA that some people had already lost their lives as a result of the flooding of the area during the rainy seasons.
