The West Akyem Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Seth Oduro-Boadu, on behalf of the ministry, made the presentation at a ceremony at Asamankese last Monday.

He advised the recipients to take proper care of the bikes and use them for the intended purpose of reaching out to the people.

Fulfilment of President’s promise

Mr Oduro-Boadu said the donation of the motorbikes was in fulfilment of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s promise of empowering all assembly members nationwide to move to all nooks and crannies of the country to educate the masses on government polices and programmes.

No excuse to absent yourselves

The MCE said with the acquisition of the motorbikes, the assembly members had no excuse to absent themselves from or attending meetings late, attributing the problem to lack of transport.

The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Joseph Kwasi Baah Yirenkyi, on behalf of the beneficiary assembly members, thanked the President and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for the gesture and promised that he and his colleagues would use the motorbikes exclusively for the intended purpose.

“You should not use the motorbikes at your pleasure such as using them to chase or carry your girlfriends to enjoy yourselves at the expense of the assembly work,” he advised his colleagues.

Mr Yeboah seized the opportunity to appeal to the government to give assembly members salaries to encourage them to work harder.

In a related development, the MCE, on behalf of the National Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), presented a brand new four-wheel vehicle to the West Akyem Municipal Directorate of the NHIA to enable the staff to reach out to more registrable people in the municipality.

Mr Emmanuel Asante Ameyaw, the Municipal Manager of the NHIA, who received the vehicle, thanked the donors for the gesture and said it would enhance the work of the staff.

In another development, Mr Oduro-Boadu has on behalf of the West Akyem Municipal Assembly donated one swivel chair and eight office chairs to the Asamankese Circuit Court.
